LL16 SUPERIOR ECF NBHK (Aspen) PULP
Printable Version LL16 SUPERIOR NBHK is a class leading single hardwood species Northern Bleached Hardwood Kraft Pulp reinforced with approximately 7% of our LL19 PRIME NBSK (a premium reinforcement NBSK pulp). Aspen pulp is widely recognized by paper manufacturers as being very easily bleached; resulting in lower input costs and thereby reducing environmental impacts. Northern Bleached Hardwood Kraft (NBSK) Aspen pulpLL16 SUPERIOR NBHK pulp is an excellent choice for printing and writing paper manufacturers for use in a variety of paper grades due to its excellent printing properties and strength. LL16 SUPERIOR NBHK pulp has many unique characteristics such as: being single species, class-leading cleanliness, superior formation, small vessel segments, excellent surface properties and well balanced physical properties enhanced by good bulk and opacity. These properties are valued by printing/writing paper companies, tissue manufacturers and specialty paper manufacturers. Uses- coated / uncoated printing / writing / commercial papers
- tissue - toilet paper, napkins / wipes / other sanitary products
- bond / copy paper
- carbonless / photographic papers
- machine glazed / grease proof / wax / other specialty papers
- paperboard
LL16 SUPERIOR Advantages- LL16 SUPERIOR bleaches easily resulting in a high brightness product with lower input costs and a reduced environmental impact.
- LL16 SUPERIOR has excellent fiber length and low coarseness which gives our pulp significantly improved physical properties vs. other hardwood pulps - i.e. Higher Initial Tear and Zero Span Tensile which add to machine runnability and a higher TEA which is important to handle the stresses of multiple converting.
- LL16 SUPERIOR has superior uniformity and smoothness characteristics, as well as, low coarseness and fine pore structure – these qualities are valued by premium tissue manufacturers to help promote the feel of “softness”.
- LL16 SUPERIOR fibers are easily collapsed for ease of refining, due to a thin walled structure, and are perfectly suited for specialty papers requiring less bulk and reduced opacity. Its high freeness values aid in productivity improvements and energy conservation and is an ideal pulp for use in lower horsepower refiners.
- LL16 SUPERIOR is a good pulp for formation sensitive grades (bond and copy paper, carbonless, photographic, machine glazed and coated grades.)
- LL16 SUPERIOR vessel segments are small; virtually eliminating problems from vessel segment picking.
- LL16 SUPERIOR provides excellent smoothness and holdout characteristics with less calendaring than when using thicker walled higher density hardwoods - **
- LL16 SUPERIOR has a high fiber population that results in improved smoothness and coating holdout, higher opacity and better formation. These qualities are important to bulk sensitive printing paper and board manufacturers. It is a preferred pulp for use in papers requiring a closed surface and smooth printing surface.
- LL16 SUPERIOR has a high Tensile Index and Tensile Energy Absorption (TEA). Paper made from pulp with high tensile index and TEA is capable of handling repeated snaps and violent changes in tension during multiple converting operations.
- LL16 SUPERIOR is a single hardwood species pulp that provides improved uniformity, run to run consistency and allows for the highest optimization of furnish blends to minimize stock preparation costs.**
- LL16 SUPERIOR can be used as a cost competitive Eucalyptus pulp alternative - ranging from 50% to 100% substitution - for paper products such as tissue and napkins.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)Forest certification through sustainable forestry is a cornerstone of responsible forest management. Sustainable forestry is the practice of land stewardship that integrates harvesting and reforestation of trees while preserving soil, air and water quality, wildlife and plant habitat as well as aesthetics for today and into the future. Sustainable Forestry is based on the concept of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the anticipated needs of future generations. This is accomplished by practicing a land stewardship ethic that integrates the reforestation, managing, growing, nurturing and harvesting of trees for useful products with the conservation of soil, air and water quality, biological diversity, wildlife and aquatic habitat, recreation, and aesthetics. The SFI® program is a comprehensive system of principles, objectives and performance measures developed by foresters, conservationists and scientists that, when put into practice, ensure forests are being managed in a sustainable manner.
